A Year Gone By

Hard to believe that it has been a whole year since I wrote a blog for the web site, but as they say, “time flies”. A great deal of things have happened in my life since I last posted a blog on the web site. Last August, we lost my mother. After battling Multiple Sclerosis for 43 years, there just wasn't any fight left in her and within a week of having a seizure, she was gone. I’m pretty sure grieving for a parent isn't any easier when you can see the end coming from a long way away.

The Foundation

The basic need to connect with another human being and share time and space in a meaningful way gets met each and every day and leaves you with the very contented sense that you are making a difference in people’s lives in a positive way.

Cats have it, in spades. So do great athletes. Barry Sanders spinning away from would be tacklers and getting knocked to the ground, only to reach out a hand and spring himself back skyward and off he goes again to the end zone. Without balance, he’s flat on the ground back at the fifty yard line. Balance is a skill, a trait, a gift and a blessing.

Plan Your Work and Work Your Plan

These words were first spoken to me in the fall of 1986 by Coach Scott Lovekamp, my college pitching coach. Coach Lovekamp looked like your proto-typical California surfer dude, when in fact he was originally from Jacksonville, Illinois. He had pitched in the minor leagues for several seasons before taking the job as our pitching coach at Southwest Missouri State University.
